7 Small Changes That Will Make A Huge Difference In Your Upvc Replacement Door Handles

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors are worn out over time and will need to be replaced. When doing this it is crucial that the new handles conform to the dimensions of the old handle.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw's position, lever and key hole sizes. Refer to the size guide for assistance with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle is a modern-day door handle that is designed to fit new or replacement doors. This style door handle is offered in a variety of styles and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The door handles of uPVC/Composite are made of robust materials and are suitable for doors with multi-point locks that require a heavy duty design. The handles are inline, and they utilize the same spindle and screws to secure them. They can be easily installed on any uPVC/Composite doors.

The handle can be adjusted and angled to fit any user. The handle has been endurance tested to 200,000 cycles. This allows for the assurance of the quality of the finish as well as the performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever can also be shortened to fit the widest range of locks. This is particularly beneficial in doors with smaller door frames where the cylinder is further back. A shortened lever is also an ideal choice for doors that have latches that can be activated by the thumb turn on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently than lever handles found on most doors. These handles can operate from a single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are typically used on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a variety of finishes and variations.

The handles have been tested to a minimum of 200,000 cycles and are available in various finishes including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and resistant to corrosion. This gives the handle a high performance and durability for the purpose it was designed for.

All UPVC levers for handles include a spindle and screws and can be mounted on a uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm permit a bigger size of handle which is often a benefit when replacing a faulty or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The levers for these handles have springs, which can solve the issue of handles for doors that slide out of their horizontal position when not in use.

It is essential to match up the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when choosing a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement may also be referred to as 'handle centres' or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the correct handles.

When you have the right PZ size, you'll be required to make sure that the handle lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compatible handles you need for your doors. They typically have of a round or square design with an internal lever and external push pad.

The majority of the UPVC Lever Pads that we sell are spring-loaded. This means they return to a horizontal position after not in use, rather than hanging and possibly sticking in the frame. This helps prevent the draughts and cold air from entering a home. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles come in both left and right handed models which allows them to be put on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are commonly used on uPVC doors, but they can also be found on other types of doors. They work by using a key that unlock a cylinder that will reveal pins that can be aligned to those inside the lock body, permitting them to turn the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with external and internal doors typically needing different levels of security.

The selection of a cylinder is vital. It depends on the use that your doors and handles will receive. For example, external doors must be secured with a more secure cylinder while doors inside can be secured with the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can improve security, for instance, anti drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it must be measured correctly. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. If you cannot measure using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks such as lock snapping, so it is essential to make sure it's not too long.

Most newer cylinders have been constructed with bump and anti-drill features that are built into their design. These are designed to reduce attack chances by forcing the cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This will help to deflect the attack and keep your doors safe.

Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a much faster and more convenient method of gaining access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which could make it difficult to prove insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found inside the base plate of the door handle. It provides a sprung solution to help return your multipoint lock handles back to their resting position after usage. Previously a lot of handles did not have a spring integrated into them and without this they tend to droop or  drop once the locking mechanism is removed. The addition of this simple element is one of the best ways to correct this and it is also an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in an open or closed position, since they are not always easy to manually close by hand.

These spring cassettes are specially designed to be used with multipoint locks that are sprung but they won't work with non-sprung multipoint handles. You will need to have a custom hole cut into your backplate in order for them to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for broken or missing cassettes in the backplate of the door handle for numerous brands of uPVC doors. They are sold as one unit. They have a square-cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes provide an excellent value solution to the issue of sagging  door handles . These spring cassettes are easy to install and will extend the lifespan of your uPVC door.
